Training Course Better Together: Creation of a Network for Youth Employability in Europe

This training is designed to build Portuguese-speaking youth workers capacities from various European countries. At the end of the training, they will become part of a network that will empower them for their daily youth work.

General Description

From the 10th to 14th of August 2019 in Bragança, Portugal (region CIM of Trás-os-Montes); CAP Magellan in collaboration with ASPPA (Associação dos pós graduados Portugueses na Alemanha), ADYFE (African Diaspora Youth Forum in Europe), CNJ (Conselho Nacional da Juventude Portuguesa) and Bué Fixe (associação juvenil afro-portuguesa) is organizing under the Erasmus+ programme a training: “Better Together! Creation of a Network for Youth Employability in Europe”.

The training’s aim is to encourage exchange of good practices, the emergence of ideas to find solutions to increase employability of young people in Europe. This training is designed to build Portuguese-speaking youth workers capacities from various European countries and nationalities. At the end of the training, they will become part of a network.

All participants will take part in seminars, trainings as well as cultural and educational visits that will empower them for their daily youth work. This meeting of European youth workers will take place during four days in Portugal.

  • So, do you speak Portuguese?
  • Are you a youth worker or in regular contact with young people in your association?
  • Do you want to work for a better employability of young people on the European level and participate in the creation of a transnational network of Portuguese-speaking youth workers?

We are searching for participants corresponding to the following profile:

  • you speak Portuguese (minimum B2 level of Portuguese)
  • you live in Austria / Germany / Portugal / France: according to the rules of Erasmus+ Programme, only 50 participants of these countries will be taken in charge by the project
  • if you don’t live in one of these countries, you can still send your application and it will be analysed based on your motivation and the places available.
  • For candidates living outside of Austria / Germany / Portugal / France (due to the European Union Programme), international transport won’t be taken in charge of by the project.
  • you are a youth worker, representative or active member of an association related to young people, engaged in youth projects or in contact with young people at your work place

Selection criteria

The connection of the candidates with a disadvantaged public (and with asylum seekers / refugees) , your experience as a youth worker and your interest in the topic will be favored.

Travel reimbursement

We will refund up to the limit of the following scale for a return trip:

  • € 360 for participants from Germany,

to the partner organisation after the seminar. upon presentation of proof of expense and provided that he/she has been present at the whole event. The refund of travel costs is limited to participants coming from Germany/France/Austria or Portugal due to the rules of Erasmus+ Programme.

Training Course: The Purpose Project

Dates: 30 August – 8 September 2019

The main aim of this training course is to develop the competences of 24 youth workers from 8 countries to help them better support their youth to identify and pursue their life purpose.

General Description

The reality in Europe, is that students must decide at a young age, usually when they are 17 or 18, what career path they want to take.

After they select their desired field of study for University, it is extremely difficult to change their field of study and follow a different path in the future.

This results in a large majority of European students graduating University with no direction into what career path could fulfill them or what to do next, as well as high dropout rates.

That is why the idea for the TC is to equip European Youth workers with the competences (knowledge, attitudes, and skills) to support young people to find a sense of purpose and job fulfillment and connect their passions to employability.

Main Aim:
The main aim of this training course is to develop the competences of 24 youth workers from 8 countries to help them better support their youth to identify and pursue their life purpose.

THE TRAINING OBJECTIVES:

  • to increase the knowledge of youth workers on what purpose is, why it is important, and what is its connection to employability
  • to develop youth workers’ skills to support youth to identify their life purpose and unlock their potential
  • to increase awareness on the importance of discovering and following purpose for personal and professional fulfilment.

General Description

“EntreprenHour” (EH) is a Strategic Partnership in the youth field aimed at promoting the role of Social Entrepreneurship (SE), in combination with Non-Formal Education (NFE) and practical learning among youth workers, who are keen on enhancing the social inclusion and employability of disadvantaged sectors of the youth population.

Target Group: youth operators, NGOs and institutions involved in the youth dimension of non-formal learning (youth centers, Sports clubs and associations, informal groups of young people) at the different levels (from the local to the European), in partner countries and beyond.

Training Objectives:
– Reduce early leavers from education and training to less than 10% by 2020.
– Promote the aquisition of entrepreneurial skills/attitudes and of basic transversal skills at all levels of European societites.

Project Methodology:

The project will carry 4 training courses in all 4 partner countries (Italy, Sweden, Bulgaria, and Germany). Each training will be tackling one of the 4 identified approaches:

1) Urban Needs’ Analysis, as an approach for the identification of the grassroots local community needs to be catered by means of Social Entrepreneurship action.
2) Storytelling, as an instrument of structuring business ideas, establishing a clear/cut identity of social enterprises and related initiatives/products as well as fostering internal cohesion through the establishment of a defined corporate identity.
3) ICT, as a crucial area of expertise of a social entrepreneur profile and sector of direct entrepreneurial engagement.
4) Intercultural Communication, as a pathway to foster business development by
means of effective communication campaigns bridging cultural divides.

The educational methodology of this specific training course will be based on Non Formal Education, integrated by the use of Sport as a tool of entrepreneurial empowerment..

The basic programme and order of sessions will be:

– Ice-Breaking and Teambuilding;
– Introduction to Urban Planning;
– Urban Environment and Social Inequalities;
– Introducing the SWOT Analysis;
– Urban Policy and Urban Stakeholders;
– Creativity and Urban Issues: Practical session of devising innovative initiatives addressing pressing urban challenges.;

Youth Exchange – One Step Ahead: Outdoor games and employability

The idea of the project is to create a playful environment in which you will be encouraged to explore your own capabilities, to put your values into practice and to be inspired by yourself and the others.

General Description

One Step Ahead is all about exploring the topic of employability through various games and activities happening outside, in nature. You will have the chance to bring your own questions and activities, to exchange them with others and to experience a dynamic learning opportunity.

In 10 days you will create and experiment within an intercultural group of 50 youngsters from 10 different countries.

You will:

  •  play and learn outside in different settings
  •  discover your skills and put them into practice
  •  initiate and create games/activities for the others
  •  work together with youngsters from different countries

Project’s objectives:

  •  Personal development
  •  Games

The exchange will consist of the following parts:

  • Experiencing – you will be participating in the games & workshops organised by the Group Leaders
  • Creating – in small international groups you will be organising games and activities for each other
  • Exploring – this will be the time to put all your improved skills in practice while going on an outdoor adventure in Bulgaria

What can you get out of the Project:

  • 18-23 years old committed to be part YE as well as the dissemination events (preferably without working experience and facing difficulties in finding work opportunities)
  • active and creative interested in outdoor activities and games
  • excited to work with the topic of nemployability through a different nperspective

Follow-up:
After the exchange you will have time and space for reflection, as well as for planning the next steps with nyour national team:

You will be creating at least one outdoor activity or game back home as well as write an article about your experience in Bulgaria.

ABOUT THE FACILITATORS

Krisztina Erdélyi
Krisztina (RO) is a facilitator and youth worker in Olde Vechte Foundation where for the past three years she has been supporting youngsters and young adults in their development. Out
of her playfulness, she likes to combine nature and games in order to create learning opportunities.

Anna Marija Bērziņa
Anna (LV) is a freelance project manager and facilitator who is passionate about designing educational programmes for young people. Her energetic attitude, playful spirit and practical approach to learning makes her projects dynamic, fun and insightful.

– Being selected for this course, accommodation and lodging (breakfast-lunch and dinner) will be 100% covered by the host organisation. During the exchange the catering will be provided (breakfast, lunch, dinner, 2 coffee breaks).

We will take care of our space where we will live, work and learn therefore we need to keep the place clean and useful for our activities.

– Transport: 100% covered by the Erasmus+ Youth Programme, within following limits:

Greece: 275 Euro/participant. Participants who will exceed this travel cost, will be charged the additional cost

– Participation fee 35 euro per participant. The fee will be deposited after succesful selection of the candidates (non-refundable in case of cancellation).

Travel Reimbursement: will be made on the spot during the last day if all tickets and boarding passes are presented in original

This cross-sectoral conference will address the NEET issues and showcase good practices, with the emphasize on cooperation between youth work and other sectors (formal education, employment, social & business sector…).

General Description

Theme: Young People in a NEET (Not in Education Employment or Training) situation.

Conference “On Track” is part of the SALTO Inclusion & Diveristy, as well as the Turkish NA, a longer-term strategic approach to reach young people who are excluded from the system and see how we can reconnect them to society and improve their opportunities in life.

The SALTO ID research & publication on NEET issues “On track – Different youth work approaches for different NEET situations” has been published in 2015. The 1st editon of the conference took place in Slovakia in 2016 and the 2nd in Turkey in 2018.

General aim: To support collaboration and exchange between professionals from different sectors in order to create better opportunities for young people in a NEET situation and enable their active involvement in society and integration into the labour market.

Objectives:

  • To explore different NEET realities across Europe and different types of practices or tools at all levels.
  • To exchange the variety of ways of working with young people in a NEET situation and highlight the possibility of cross-sectoral partnership projects.
  • To share resources on working with young people in a NEET situation, such as the SALTO Inclusion and Diversity study “On Track”.
  • To promote the value of international youth work for young people in NEET situations and the possibilities of Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps programmes.

Profile of participants: 80 professionals with experience working on the issue of vulnerable young people in NEET situations (face-to-face workers as well as managers/decision makers). International experience is not a must.

  • Youth workers/youth leaders ( grassroots – involved in outreach youth work and directly working with young people in a NEET situation)
  • Teachers, school support staff, alternative education staff, vocational programme staff
  • Social workers, representatives of social services
  • Local authorities/policy makers responsible for social provision
  • Employers, apprenticeships programmes, employment agencies, job centres, job clubs, job coaches

General Description

“Share the right story” is a training course that aims at making youth workers and trainers aware of the many and various uses of the non formal educational methods of storytelling and show them how it can be used to work with young people / volunteers / youth leaders. Particularly the competences gained will help them addressing the topics of online hate speeches.

Topics:

  • storytelling,
  • online hate speeches,
  • global education.

Objectives:

  • to analyze the increased impact that stories (and media) have on phenomena such as “hate speech”, intolerance and open racism. We will discuss the new needs for awareness, ethics and knowledge that come with the social media and digital era;
  • to explore the concept of “transformational storytelling”: using storytelling as an innovative tool to address change and personal development;
  • to identify, understand and practise key elements and skills for storytelling, and explore their potential benefits for learning and employability;
  • to inspire and share good practices of how to use storytelling in non formal education and in youth work.

Working methods: The activities will be based on non-formal and experiential learning methodologies, as well as nature based methods, all centered on different aspects of Storytelling. We will work on the most classic and traditional forms (storytelling circles around bonfires) to the most contemporary, like cinema, comics and videogames.

Profile of participants: youth workers, social youth workers, youth group leader, youth officer, municipal youth service responsible, EVS mentors, youth exchange responsible person, youth coach (youth initiatives), etc.
