“Towards Collaborative Practice” Forum: A cross-sectoral event exploring the potential of youth work and Erasmus+ to foster social entrepreneurship and social innovation among young people.

General Description

Why social innovation for social inclusion?

This edition of the TCP Forum will be an opportunity to discuss future pathways for social innovation and how it can foster social inclusion, delving, at the same time, into topics such as digital technology and entrepreneurship for inclusion and participation, female entrepreneurship, migrants’ integration and multiculturalism.

Building on the success of the 5 previous Towards Collaborative Practice (TCP) Forums that took place in Sweden, Italy, UK, Hungary and Spain, the National Agency of Cyprus is pleased to host the 6th edition of the TCP Forum.

The National Agency of Cyprus shares the belief promoted by the European Union that social innovation can act as a “source of remedies for increased social challenges (rising inequalities, poverty, social exclusion, social conflicts and social injustice)” (Social Innovation Task Force of the EU ISG, 2015). In this context, the upcoming Forum will look into the inter-correlation between social innovation and social inclusion.

Since the concepts of social innovation, and thus social entrepreneurship, are rather “new”, and not extensively explored concepts in Cyprus, the Forum envisions to bring together a wide range of professionals, representing various fields of the market and the society, where they will exchange their experiences, practices and visions. Moreover, the Forum will serve as a platform for the development of a network of professionals working on social innovation and will act as a reference point for further developments in the fields and facilitate their collaboration at national, regional and European level.

The Forum will be a melting pot of ideas, tools and good practices which participants, representing different sectors, will have the opportunity to further explore through relevant presentations, workshops and field visits. The Forum will also support the mainstreaming of future cooperation among participants for the implementation of innovative projects and initiatives under Erasmus+.

Moreover, in the framework of the 6th edition of the TCP Forum, the National Agency of Cyprus has already hosted a national activity targeting local stakeholders. The aim of this activity was to build common foundations on social innovation initiatives, for the Cypriot actors in the fields, to facilitate their collaboration, and offer them the space for an exchange of ideas, good practice and challenges faced in an area, such as social innovation, currently under progress, in the Cyprus context. This national activity also served as a preparation phase for the transnational TCP Forum, representing a novelty brought by this edition of the forum.

Objectives of the TCP 2020 Forum Cyprus

  • Encourage collaboration and partnership building between youth work and other sectors of the social innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
  • Raise awareness of and promote the social inclusion dimension of social innovation policies and practices.
  • Offer an opportunity for networking and sharing ideas, tools, methods, challenges and good practices.
  • Use social enterprise, social innovation and non-formal learning as a way to encourage and enable young people to sustain their entrepreneurial life skills.
  • Encourage creativity, innovation, participation, solidarity, diversity and social inclusion of young people.
  • Provide information on Erasmus+ and other opportunities to foster social innovation

An eco-friendly event: Inspired by the previous editions of the TCP Forum, the organisers endeavor to deliver an environmentally sustainable event, including site selection, menu compilation, coffee breaks and the materials we use. We believe it is important to show that there is always a way for events to be more eco-friendly, this being one of the principles of this project.

General Description

Italian National Agency of Erasmus+ Youth in cooperation with SALTO-YOUTH EuroMed, French National Agency of Erasmus+, UK National Agency and GIZ Lebanon (Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH) and local NGOs and Institutions will organise from 23th (arrival day) to 28th (departure day) September 2019 in Lebanon a Seminar about the Engagement of Women in Politics and Entrepreneurship and the specific role that youth work can have in supporting their empowerment.

The activity is also part of the Strategic Partenrship “Youth@Work” among the European National Agencies and SALTO Resource Centres responsible for the neighbouring regions Euromed, Eastern Europe and Causasus, South East Europe and the Salto RC Training & Cooperation.

The meaningful participation of women in national, local, and community leadership roles has become an important focus on global development policy. Still, some may ask why it matters if women become political leaders, elected policymakers, or civil society activists. Why does the world need more women involved in all aspects of the political process? Women’s political participation results in tangible gains for democracy, including greater responsiveness to citizen needs, increased cooperation across party and ethnic lines, and a more sustainable future.

So, why women in politics? So, why women in social entrepreneurship? The positive impact of women in politics is undeniable. Kofi Annan noted, “study after study has taught us, there is no tool for development more effective than the empowerment of women. No other policy is as likely to raise economic productivity or to reduce child and maternal mortality. No other policy is as sure to improve nutrition and promote health, including the prevention of HIV/AIDS. No other policy is as powerful in increasing the chances of education for the next generation.” Further, as Madeleine Albright has stated, the world is wasting a precious resource in the dramatic under-representation of women in leadership positions, often resulting in the exclusion of women’s talents and skills in political life.

The role of women also in social enterprises as leader and decision makers is very low: how can be supported and which direction can be taken?

The Seminar would be an opportunity to gather youth workers and youth leaders who have a specific interest in promoting at national and international level the empowerment of young women in politics and entrepreneurship as well in creating more international projects that can link different realities and experiences.

During the seminar, the participants will be able to share their own practices and identify quality elements that youth work should take in consideration when comes to support competencies developments of women in politics and entrepreneurship.

Objectives:

  • To better understand the Lebanese reality (local and national) about women in politics and social entrepreneurship;
  • To be aware about the “participatory dimension” of women in politics and social entrepreneurship;
  • To share between participants the “models” of understanding being political and social engaged
  • To overcome stereotyping role of women in politics and in social entrepreneurship
  • To discover good practices and tools about women in politics and social entrepreneurship lead by women
  • To strength opportunities of international projects.

Target Group

The seminar will be open for 25 international participants (from Programme Countries and South Mediterranean countries), both women and men. The training would be open to:

  • who is dealing directly with young people as youth workers, trainers, VET providers, ect;
  • who is active in the field of women empowerment in politics and social entrepreneurship;
  • women active in politics or in social entrepreneurship;
