“Towards Collaborative Practice” Forum: A cross-sectoral event exploring the potential of youth work and Erasmus+ to foster social entrepreneurship and social innovation among young people.

General Description

Why social innovation for social inclusion?

This edition of the TCP Forum will be an opportunity to discuss future pathways for social innovation and how it can foster social inclusion, delving, at the same time, into topics such as digital technology and entrepreneurship for inclusion and participation, female entrepreneurship, migrants’ integration and multiculturalism.

Building on the success of the 5 previous Towards Collaborative Practice (TCP) Forums that took place in Sweden, Italy, UK, Hungary and Spain, the National Agency of Cyprus is pleased to host the 6th edition of the TCP Forum.

The National Agency of Cyprus shares the belief promoted by the European Union that social innovation can act as a “source of remedies for increased social challenges (rising inequalities, poverty, social exclusion, social conflicts and social injustice)” (Social Innovation Task Force of the EU ISG, 2015). In this context, the upcoming Forum will look into the inter-correlation between social innovation and social inclusion.

Since the concepts of social innovation, and thus social entrepreneurship, are rather “new”, and not extensively explored concepts in Cyprus, the Forum envisions to bring together a wide range of professionals, representing various fields of the market and the society, where they will exchange their experiences, practices and visions. Moreover, the Forum will serve as a platform for the development of a network of professionals working on social innovation and will act as a reference point for further developments in the fields and facilitate their collaboration at national, regional and European level.

The Forum will be a melting pot of ideas, tools and good practices which participants, representing different sectors, will have the opportunity to further explore through relevant presentations, workshops and field visits. The Forum will also support the mainstreaming of future cooperation among participants for the implementation of innovative projects and initiatives under Erasmus+.

Moreover, in the framework of the 6th edition of the TCP Forum, the National Agency of Cyprus has already hosted a national activity targeting local stakeholders. The aim of this activity was to build common foundations on social innovation initiatives, for the Cypriot actors in the fields, to facilitate their collaboration, and offer them the space for an exchange of ideas, good practice and challenges faced in an area, such as social innovation, currently under progress, in the Cyprus context. This national activity also served as a preparation phase for the transnational TCP Forum, representing a novelty brought by this edition of the forum.

Objectives of the TCP 2020 Forum Cyprus

  • Encourage collaboration and partnership building between youth work and other sectors of the social innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
  • Raise awareness of and promote the social inclusion dimension of social innovation policies and practices.
  • Offer an opportunity for networking and sharing ideas, tools, methods, challenges and good practices.
  • Use social enterprise, social innovation and non-formal learning as a way to encourage and enable young people to sustain their entrepreneurial life skills.
  • Encourage creativity, innovation, participation, solidarity, diversity and social inclusion of young people.
  • Provide information on Erasmus+ and other opportunities to foster social innovation

Previous TCP Forums: More information about the project and previous editions can be found at @TCPCommunity (on Facebook).

To get the feel of the event, please watch the highlight videos of two previous editions:

Liverpool UK (March 2018):

Budapest Hungary (November 2018):

An eco-friendly event: Inspired by the previous editions of the TCP Forum, the organisers endeavor to deliver an environmentally sustainable event, including site selection, menu compilation, coffee breaks and the materials we use. We believe it is important to show that there is always a way for events to be more eco-friendly, this being one of the principles of this project.

Entrepreneurship learning in an active network is a project to develop a network of European youth workers specialized in social entrepreneurship while expanding their know-how and mapping the local social entrepreneurship ecosystem.

General Description

The project responds through its activities to the Europe 2020 strategy which is the EU’s agenda for growth and jobs for the current decade. Europe 2020 strategy It emphasize smart, sustainable and inclusive growth as a way to overcome the structural weaknesses in Europe’s economy, improve its competitiveness and productivity and underpin a sustainable social market economy.

According to the EU Youth Strategy one essential method of integrating young people into the labour market is to increase youth entrepreneurship. Youth entrepreneurship is an important factor for employment creation, increasing innovation and addressing social inequalities.

One of the project objectives is to prepare youth workers as mentors for social youth entrepreneurs. Training Course Keep Going forward: Become entrepreneur

Dates: 21-29 November 2019

Venue: Bakuriani, Georgia

Eligible are 32 participants coming from: Armenia, Belarus, Croatia, France, Georgia, Germany, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Ukraine

Application deadline: 20th October 2019

Erasmus+ youth mobility, training course for youth workers regarding the topic of Social Entrepreneurship, 21-29 November, 2019, in Bakuriani, Georgia.

General Description

Many years of working with young people at risk of exclusion made us realize that providing young people with any kind of job is not the ultimate goal, as this might just shift them from being UNemployed to being MISemployed (having a job that brings them no benefits except for basic income).

We believe social entrepreneurship is a way not only for providing individuals with work places, but also for bringing a substantial positive change in the whole communities.

The lack of knowledge and tools on the topic is especially visible among the countries outside of the EU, therefore the project brings together partners from both Program and EaP countries. This is also the one of the reason we have chosen to organize this current project in Georgia.

Profile of Participants

  • Age 18+, there is no max. age limitation
  • Able to communicate in English fluently
  • Experienced Youth Workers or individuals who are interested in starting youth work
  • Motivated to explore new ideas and methods regarding the topic of social entrepreneurship

Objectives

1. To promote the knowledge about social entrepreneurship and its potential benefits for young people at risk of exclusion from labor market.
2. To explore and discuss the challenges and solutions connected to work with young people who struggle to find a job.
3. To get to know best practices of successful social entrepreneurship that reduced the unemployment level and to provide participants with inspiration in the field.
4. To popularize entrepreneurship among young people by stimulating resourcefulness and creativity;

5. To equip youth-workers and then youth organizations with, tools, methodologies, and techniques to develop projects on the promotion of social entrepreneurship;
6. Creating networking among young people of European Union and Eastern Partnership Countries.
