About the project:
The training aims at bringing self-awareness at the participants, on their own identity and perception as human beings, not as objects of stereotypes based on their gender. This issue is very common in young people, raised in environments filled with thoughts like masculinity is for boys and emotions are for girls.

The youth needs to raise their gender literacy to achieve better self-understanding and confidence. Now in the era of technology, young people spend more time online, where many issues are projected in the web showing the need of raising the media literacy in young people. The world of media and social networks is becoming more and more visual, so the need to distinguish between the good and bad examples of media provocations is pretty urgent too.

By this project we are willing to promote gender diversity and by transferring understanding on common fundamental values of our society to reach young people and to contribute to the prevention of violent radicalization based on gender.

The program of the training activity is organized in building up thematic modules to provide new information, enhance knowledge and develop the skills of participants, and enable participants to share in a safe and creative environment. The program also includes meetings with experts on visual arts as well as visiting several associations who will share their own practises and who are experts in the field of gender equality and will further contribute to the learning and development process.

The specific objectives of the Visual storytelling from A to Z training course are as
follows:

  •  Introducing the visual storytelling as a method for raising awareness campaigns and create an emotional bonding with any topic;
  •  Raising awareness on main concepts about gender equality and deconstruct stereotypes on gender roles and appearances created by society back in the years and repeated by the modern society;
  •  Introducing knowledge for gender equality education, based on meeting with experts, peer learning and self-assessment techniques and connecting them with visual storytelling methodologies;
  •  Developing a sensibility and critical thinking on the topic of gender based inequalities, to be able to recognize the vulnerability of gender (in)equalities and showcase real stories through visual arts;
  •  Developing tools to work on prevention or to react in cases of gender inequalities, hate speech, exclusions or violence (online and offline);
  • Developing the competences of the participants to plan, organize and implement educational activities on gender equality;
  •  Create a bond and ground for international cooperation and networking.

Eligible are 26 participants coming from: France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Slovenia, Spain

Application deadline: 29th February 2020

As a group we will explore the power of games and their use in various settings. Do they build trust? Solve conflicts? Question ones self? Create a group? Entertain? Connect? Be a tool for sharing? Transforming? Growth? Working through difficult topics?

General Description

The Game is On! A 10-day training & reasearch on physical games and when, where and how to play them.

Jonglirium e.V. is a german nonprofit applying creative methods such as circus, theater and music to work with disadvantaged youth and promoting workshops and trainings for adults. This time we teamed up with game master & mistress Richard Kimberley (From the Playns) and Anne Merlin (Nomadways).

The project is aimed at people who work with games in some form (in social, cultural and artistic settings) and wish to explore and develop more.

What will happen in this training?

As a group we will explore the power of games and their use in various settings. How do they build trust? Solve conflicts? Question ones self? Create a group? Entertain? Connect? Be a tool for sharing? Transforming? Growth? Working through difficult topics? Or simply for fun?

  • We will play a lot!
  • We will share a lot. Our knowledge and our thoughts…
  • We will explore, deconstruct and analyse games of various types: Whats behind the games?
  • What is the structure of a game? What is play?
  • We will learn and practice leading games.
  • We will eventually create and customise our own games for various situations.

The training sessions will be lead by the two trainers. Find out more about the trainers here! There will be also free time to do whatever together (there a 3 kajaks, lots of bikes and a beautifull surrounding with hills, lakes and cliffs to climb).

We have space for guests, sleeping in tents on GutAlaune – the space where we will live and work together. To share the workload, like cleaning and helping the cook and we will divide these tasks among ouselves.

The location

The project will happen from 2nd (arrival) to 13th of june (departure) at GutAlaune just outside of Halle (Saale) Germany next to the river Saale. It’s a project and living space just outside the city that we’re setting up since the beginning of 2016 – so some stuff is a little improvised. Check out the video of a 2017 circus training at the venue

Sleeping will be in your own tents so please bring tents, sleeping bags, isolation mats and whatever you need to feel comfy outdoors. If you have trouble arranging this or you can’t fit it in your luggage contact us ahead of time. We have a hang out space in case of bad weather, but we hope to be mostly outside.

There is an outside kitchen and lounge area, outside showers and toilets and there is a river right infront the space as well to cool down from the heat of the training. We will have a cook preparing delicious vegetarian meals for us and will divide tasks to help with cutting, cleaning, the dishes and such.

Important note: We don’t have enough WIFI here for big groups – so make sure you have roaming or get a german Sim Card with internet if you want to stay connected.

Costs

This project is financed by the Erasmus+ Youth Programme.

Accommodation and food

We will organise and provide accommodation and food. The participants don’t pay anything other than the participation fee.

Travel reimbursement

We can cover your travel expenses:

  • up to 180€ for participants traveling from Germany;

We want to give you the possibility to self-evaluate how much you can contribute financially, and how much you consider a fair fee for 10 days training programme.

The fee will be substracted from your travel expenses (e.g. if you spend 180€ on transport we will tranfer 180€ minus your contribution to you after the training). Food, trainers and accommodation are free.

Training Course: Camino+

Dates: 5-13 May 2020

Venue: Lugo to Santiago de Compostela, Spain

Eligible are 30 participants coming from: France, Greece, Italy, Romania, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom

Application deadline: 26th February 2020

The training course will take the format of a 100km hike-pilgrimage using what is known as the first European Cultural itinerary, the Camino of Santiago de Compostela in Spain, while exploring the power of inner peace through meditation for youth workers.

General Description

Mindfulness and meditation are increasingly popular practices, yet, not mainstreamed within youth work peace education.

Even though the current youth work practices are very beneficial for young people, they do need to evolve in order to answer to a context increasingly marked by rising prejudices and misunderstanding of others’ identity and beliefs, generating an ungrounded fear of others.

The energy of youth workers is more than needed to actively lobby for peace in seek for a constant social peaceful progress, not only by cultivating their practical skills, but also by growing their inner peace and peacebuilding skills.

Through this project, we aim to entice the youth work community at the European and each national level, to adopt mindfulness practices in working with their target groups. While mindfulness could be considered as a lifestyle and hence a broad concept, we will focus on the practice of meditation together with outdoor non-formal methods to foster the inner and outer peace-building skills of youth workers.

Hence, Camino+ will be a hike-pilgrimage journey for youth workers to experience inner peace methods coupled with hands-on practices of conflict management and intercultural dialogue, ready to be applied with their target groups in their local communities.

Within the intersection of the themes approached by this project: mindfulness, peace-building, outdoor education, and intercultural dialogue. The symbolism and nature of this hike-pilgrimage, will allow us to experience these 4 dimensions together, fostering the learning experience of the participants. The training course will hence, provide a unique opportunity for youth workers to connect with each other, and to learn how to be mindful and conscious at professional and personal levels.

We will address the following specific objectives:

  • Entice 30 youth workers around Europe to adopt and multiply inner peace practices, aiming to evolve youth work peace education as pillar soft skills for peace builders.
  • Introduce the embodied peace building method, and explore its adaptation to youth work situations.

  • Foster efficient leadership in peace building local activities and empower youth workers to address conflict management.
  • Link inner peace practices together with outdoor education to develop innovative, playful and creative methods applicable to young people.
  • Offer a space to develop and exchange ideas and practices on peace building and intercultural dialogue, and contribute to strengthening peace in participants’ communities.

Seminar Image Mapping: Engaging international volunteers and making impact in rural communities

Dates: 6-12 March 2020

Venue: Kötschach-Mauthen, Austria

Eligible are 23 participants coming from: Austria, Belgium – DE, Belgium – FL, Belgium – FR, Estonia, Spain

Application deadline: 1st February 2020

How do we engage young people from rural areas in international volunteering projects? And how do we best organise international volunteering projects in rural areas? In this seminar, we will exchange tools and best practices around these questions.

General Description

When we organize youth projects and volunteering camps in the countryside, it can sometimes feel like a parallel universe: Youth from all around Europe engage in an intense intercultural exchange, while there is not necessarily a lot of interaction with the local community.

We want to change that and strengthen the local impact of international volunteering projects. We will organize first this seminar for youth workers in March in Austria and then a pilot youth exchange in June in Ukraine.

In this seminar, youth workers from around Europe will gather to learn and exchange, among other topics:

  • Non-formal education methods around making international volunteers interact with rural communities
  • Best practices of engaging international volunteers in rural communities, among them the „Image Mapping“ project from Ukraine
  • How to create intercultural events in villages
  • How to reach rural youth to participate in international volunteering projects
  • Group dynamics of international youth projects in the countryside

As an outcome, we will create a manual on how to create interaction between international volunteers and rural communities. The manual will include method descriptions and guidelines for youth and volunteering organisations to be used
