A Youth Exchange needs content. Tools for Youth Exchanges is a training that enables participants to explore tools around group processes, (intercultural) learning, involvement of young people and how to facilitate these tools during a youth exchange.

General Description

The overall aim of TYE – Tools for Youth Exchanges – is for youth leaders and youth workers to explore, share and adapt tools that can be used to improve their youth exchange projects.

Further TYE is designed according to the following objectives:

  • To increase awareness of group processes and tools that facilitate group development
  • To develop competences in designing and facilitating educational workshops
  • To explore tools that support learning process, including debriefing and recognition of learning.
  • To explore tools and models that focus on intercultural learning.
  • To explore how to motivate young people to be actively involved at all stages of a youth exchange project.
  • To gain understanding of how to support young people during the follow-up phase of a youth exchange project.

Expected profile of participants:

The training course is designed for voluntary and professional youth workers, working directly with young people and who have one from the following experiences with Erasmus+ Youth Programme:

  • Have experience in organising and/or participating as a team member in international youth exchange;
  • Have applied for a youth exchange project funding and are waiting for an answer or just about to implement a youth exchange;
  • Have applied for a youth exchange project and has been rejected (and are planning to apply again).

You should have a direct contact with young people who are already involved or want to get involved in an international youth exchanges.

This training course will be in English, without any possibility of permanent translation. Therefore, we ask you to have a good level of English (to be able to understand and to communicate).

Participants should be at least 18 years old.

Expected group size is approximately 25-30 participants

Course programme:

TYE course programme is built on the past experiences of participants and offers variety of workshops, info-sessions, activities to improve youth exchange practices of using tools and methods. Attached is the provisional programme of the course.

Long term online and offline Training course. Would you like to discover what makes a Youth Exchange the “Cherry on the cake”? Are you willing to discover the long term work with other youth workers?

General Description

If you have already led a Youth Exchange -at least once- you probably know that it can be a life-changing experience for the participating young people. Not only that, organising a Youth Exchange with partners from other countries has the potential to upgrade your local youth work practice, and take it to the “next level”.

With Cherry on the cake 2020 we would like to offer you a special journey. An opportunity to discover long term work with groups as first hand experience. With focus on preparatory phase and follow-up activities, which will be implemented online to support residential training course. The whole process is designed as holistic approach to youth exchanges and it can also offer a simulation of phases in youth exchanges.

Training course Cherry on the cake consists of 3 phases: (see detailed description in downloaded file)

Aim and Objectives

The aim of the training course is to deepen the understanding of the potential and possibilities of a Youth Exchange as a tool for non-formal learning in long-term work with young people.

The training concept has been developed as a means for systematic support for organisations working with young people from Erasmus+ Programme Countries and the West Balkan region, who already have the basic understanding and experience in Youth Exchanges. The TC is also an opportunity for contact making and partnership building.

The course has been developed by the Slovenian NA and SALTO SEE RC and has been running on a yearly basis since 2012, each year being revised and improved.

Objectives of the programme are to:

  • Explore the use of digital tools in a meaningful way in different phases of a Youth Exchange.
  • Explore the potential of Youth Exchanges for motivation, learning and empowerment in long term work with young people.
  • Identify the challenges of international setting a Youth Exchange brings and reflect on how to approach them.
    Increase the participants’ understanding of the importance of involving young people in all phases of a Youth Exchange and the tailoring it according to their needs.
    Online activity will focus on several aspects of this objective:
    a.support to involvement of young people from local level activities to international setting
    b.specific challenges of local/international youth work in current reality (post COVID out break situation);
    c.the unclear modality of youth exchanges in next generation of Youth Programme;
    Increase the participants’ understanding of the role of a Youth Leader in all phases of a Youth Exchange.
    Develop participants’ competences to recognise the potential for learning in all phases of a Youth Exchange and support the learning processes of everyone involved.

Target Group

The training course aims to bring together 20 participants from the Erasmus+ Programme Countries and the Western Balkan Partner Countries who:

  • Work with young people on a regular basis (youth workers, youth leaders…);
  • Have implemented at least one Youth Exchange within the Erasmus+ Programme as a youth leader;
  • Are ready for long term commitment to this Training course;
  • Are interested in leading Youth Exchanges in the future and build quality partnership;
  • Are interested in integrating digital approaches and tools in their work with young people in Youth Exchanges;
  • Are capable of working in English;
  • Are at least 18 years old.

The training course will be run by two trainers with extensive experience in the field.

Since 2015, SALTO-YOUTH.net in cooperation with several Erasmus+ National Agencies offers an online course about Erasmus+ funding opportunities for youth. The course aims for unlimited participation and provides interactive course materials such as videos, online forums, quizzes, reading lists and publication references.

In addition to this, MOOC provides an opportunity for learners to create networks and build partnerships among participants. Since its launch, more than 10.000 participants have enrolled in this course.

Structure and resources of the MOOC

The MOOC is structured into 6 thematic modules:

Have you ever considered becoming a trainer and conducting trainings for youth? If so – then The Netherlands School for Innovative Education invites you to join the training for trainers where you will receive knowledge and skills necessary to become a professional trainer!

The event is meant for youth workers who do not have any training experience or have only minimal experience in conducting trainings. Conducting training might seem an easy but those who have done it – they know for sure – conducting a good training is an art! In order to be successful trainer you need to gain specific knowledge and skills. Where acquire this knowledge? How to develop those skills?

During this course will share all that with you. The training covers the following topics:

  • Coach work – what does it mean – being a coach? Participants will know about the features of this work and how to become a great trainer.
  • Coach skills – participants will learn the skills necessary to become a successful trainer.
  • Resources for trainers – where coaches can find examples of trainings, where they can find needed tools other useful information essential for providing a high-quality training? Participants will be given information about the resources for trainers.

Participants will gain competences to successfully increase young migrants and young people with migrant background political and civic participation in Europe at local and regional level with the support of digital tools.

General Description

The current context demands, more than never, a very conscious, informed, collaborative and supportive approach of youth workers, decision-makers and trainers, among other relevant stakeholders and key actors in the field while empowering young people to make the best and most ethical use of online spaces of participation, education and shaping our relationships and interactions. Online Participation of the most vulnerable groups of young people must be object of reflection, work and co-creation!

As other young people young migrants have extraordinary energy, creativity and potential for change they can largely contribute for the development and cohesion of our communities.

By increasing the civic and political participation of young migrants and young people with migrant background, institutions and organizations can bring on board new visions and innovative approaches to various challenges faced by our societies and by the European project.

Working together with young migrants and young people with migrant background by developing knowledge, skills and attitudes involving them political and civic participation on existing structures, spaces and mechanisms for youth participation in decision-making will not only increase their sense of belonging, identity and active citizenship to the European project, but also help in breaking stereotypes and act against discrimination and violence.

Therefore, the course will enable youth workers, youth leaders, migrant multipliers, project managers and project coordinators to gain knowledge, skills and attitudes to successfully increase young migrants and young people with migrant background political and civic participation on various structures, spaces and mechanisms for youth participation in decision making also making use of several online tools, resources, practices and platforms.

The objectives are:

  • To Empower youth workers and that are working with young migrants and young people with migrant background to better represent their interests and current challenges (such as integration, identity conflict, discrimination, employment, education, lack of youth policies and involvement in the decision-making process), making use of existing online tools, resources and platforms;
  • To Acquire Know-How on concepts and roles of youth work, youth policies, migration and integration policies and institutions relevant for the engagement of migrant youth at different levels (local, national and European level), understanding the value, ethics and role of online youth work and available tools, resources and platforms;
  • To Become Acquainted with state-of-the-art approaches and methodologies that can support youth practitioners and the young migrants and young people with migrant background, in tackling pressing issues such as inclusion;
  • To Increase Awareness of developing strategies to increase sense of belonging and active participation in order to avoid the radicalization of young people in Europe;
  • To Increase the Number & Quality of projects in the framework of Erasmus+.
    Target groups:

Youth workers, Youth policy makers, Migrant multipliers, Youth leaders & Young activists, Project managers & Project Coordinators, Civil servants with responsibilities in youth departments, youth houses, etc.

The activity also foreseen that participants should be able to:

– represent or be actively engaged on a civil society organization, NGO, youth NGOs, or public structure working with the course target groups;

– have the availability to fully attend the course (synchronous online sessions)

– able to work in English;

– at least 18 years old;

It´s also expected participants to share and multiply what they learn and to implement the new knowledge and skills in their work.

The programme consists interactive sessions, presentations and exploration of the topic using different online tools. Allowing the group to share their experiences and build on new knowledge coming from inputs and exercises.

The sessions will be divided between plenary sessions and facilitated work in smaller groups. Participants are expected to take part in the whole training course, and contribute with their opinions and experience (please consult detailed daily programme attached).

Technical equipment needed – Computer with camera and microphone and reliable internet connection. https://zoom.us/ and canvas.net will be the main digital platforms of the course. Participants will need to download zoom and create an account on canvas.net.

All selected participants will also be invited to a pre-meeting (welcome session) to explore the main tools that will be used along the course, to share needs and expectations, to have a first contact among themselves and the team and solve technical issues.

The main aim of this training course is to empower and equip youth workers with the competences needed to work in a One 2 One relationship with young people in order to support their learning and development processes.

General Description

Have you ever felt confused about your role with the young people you work with? Can you work with groups, but find it difficult to work with individuals? Have you never had a tetralemma? Yes? Then this course is for you!

What does “One 2 One” Stand for?

“One 2 One” is a little play on words. One 2 one means face to face i.e. the individual relationship, which we are focusing on during the training course.

The aims and objectives of this training course:

The main aim of this course is to empower and equip youth workers with the competences needed to work in a One 2 One relationship with young people in order to support their learning and development processes.

Within this, you will:

  • Explore what “supporting learning” means in one-to-one relationships;
  • Practice different one-2-one learning support methods and approaches;
  • Learn how to support self-reflection;
  • Reflect on the complementarity of individual- and group learning;
  • Exchange about the various of contexts where one-2-one happens and compare approaches such as mentoring, coaching and tutoring;
  • See how the One-2-One approach links with the ETS competence model for youth workers working internationally.

The course will be based on and supported by the following publications:

  • One 2 One – Supporting Learning Face to Face
  • The Competence Model for Youth workers to work internationally
  • Within the training course you will also learn more about how to implement the Youthpass process.

Target group and profile of participants:

Professionals and volunteers – youth workers and/or youth leaders, youth trainers, mentors, educators etc.:

  • who have minimum one year of experience in working with young people (be it in local youth work or international mobility context);
  • motivated to develop the competences needed to work in One 2 One relationships;
    minimum 18 years old;
  • able to actively participate in English.

The learning process and the programme of the training course:

In order to provide the possibility for participants to experience being supported individually in their own learning process, the training course is extended by One 2 One talks with the trainers both before and after the course. Each participant will be accompanied by the same trainer throughout.

Being selected for this course, all costs (accommodation, travel, etc.) relevant to participation in the course will be covered by the NAs or SALTO Resource Centre involved in this project.

Travel reimbursement

If yes, after being selected, get in touch with your NA or SALTO again to learn more about the overall procedure to arrange the booking of your travel tickets and the reimbursement of your travel expenses.
